Meet the Founders of Swing Into Their Dreams

Here's our story. And our why.

Because we remember what it was like to struggle in college.

Pamela didn’t have support to go to college. She was on her own, trying to navigate adulthood, getting through college and figuring out how to pay for it all. You may recall yourself, as an 18 yr old, that’s a very difficult thing to do. Even with money through the GI bill, she still found it difficult to make ends meet to both live and buy books.

College years can be extremely financially straining for our African-American students. When you’re in class wondering how you’re going to pay for next quarter, it’s very hard to concentrate on your own courses. And there’s more to it than just grades. Without adequate money and the difficult but character-building distraction of trying to work while learning; financial aid not coming in on time; family dynamics and more, our kids are often forced to go back home and not finish college. Late fees accrue. And now, if they do graduate, they end up graduating with such high debt levels.

This is the heart-wrenching struggle we work to solve for our students.

For Lynn, going to college was a non-negotiable from the beginning. In her two-parent household, this was the norm and the expectation. As an educator working for the College Board, she saw so many underrepresented students come through her doors who wanted to go to college but couldn’t.

70% of caucasian students will go to college compared to 50% of minorities.

How do we help more of our students enroll and graduate?

Now that Lynn has her own minority son living in her household, the challenge became more real to her: how do we help others like him to enroll and graduate? And how do we even the playing field for all?

Both Pamela and Lynn met eachother through the Atlanta Black Chambers and an idea emerged: an idea that resonated with purpose. “What if we could use the love of golf to support HBCU students?”

How do we level the playing field for our HBCU students?

We give.

We support.

We connect.

We care.

We follow up.

We guide.

By doing this, we ensure on our watch that we enroll and graduate more HBCU students from our impressive institutions.
